MOEREWA

"Tama tu tama ora, tama noho tama mate" (To stand is to live to lie down is to die)
This whakatauaki has been the catch cry for many of us living here in Moerewa.
It is about standing up and taking our place, and not being swept away by the tides of change.
He mihi nui, he mihi aroha kia koutou katoa.....
Where are we.... We are in Aotearoa (New Zealand) We live within the mountains, that form the pillars of the house of Ngapuhi. We are in the far north of the north island
Who are we....
We are the decendents of Rahiri
Moerewa is a Contemporary Maori experience, we are unique, and the many visitors that have come here have enjoyed the easy generosity of the people. We are a town that is 90% Maori and a few years ago went through a real hard time, we suffered like many rural communities all around the world from restructuring and loss of rural services. Moerewa now has a new lease of life one that is in balance with the things of the past, and in the present is taking up the challenge to create an exciting future for our children. We have in the past been in the shadows now we are emerging into the light,we are celebrating our beauty, our diversity and enterprise as "21st century Maori"
